Dance Project – Global Water Dances

For the second year, children and adults of Starling Dance Theatre took part in the Global Water Dances: Dancing for Clean Water Everywhere!  This amazing world-wide community dance event connected over 170 participating sites to raise awareness of issues around drinking water access globally and local water issues.

Also part of Arts, Activism, and the Environment, and Cruinniu Na Nog at Cork Midsummer Festival it connected so many people here in Cork:

We are thrilled to have come together June 2019 with members of the communit, students of Scoil Bernadette working with dance artist Lisa Cahill, Lightbulb and UCC Youth Theatres, visiting students of James Madison University, USA. Aoife Desmond with River Action, Roksana Niewadzisz, Emma Woodhouse, The Department of Theatre, UCC, Mark Garavan and Orla O’Donovan – editors of the Community Development Journal launching a Special issue: Water, Anti-privatisation Struggles and The Commons-. The Glucksman Gallery, and many more. With Garry Jones of The Harmonic Forge leading all of us into a wonderful world of unique musical instruments and sounds.

To all those who took part and/or lent a helping hand, a huge thank you!

Classes for Adults

Contemporary Dance

Level 1/2 Beginners / Improvers

Time to start breathing, moving, dancing again!

If you like to attain the basics of contemporary dance, improve technically, get a feeling for flowing from balance to fall, from standing to rolling and coming up with ease, if you would like to learn short dynamic combinations, improvise and work in contact, and gain confidence to change and create your own twist on the material, then this is the class for you.

To me dancing feels like I am alive, flying and free. Find new ways to express yourself and move through space. Learn combinations and technical exercises, find your balance, off-balance, fall and recover, spiral, turn, jump and fly. What is it that moves us in life? Be encouraged to find your own movements, and change and develop a combination to make it your own. Together we improve our awareness, control, coordination, balance, strength, flexibility and creativity. Feel ready for almost anything!

The Level 1/2 Beginners / Improvers  classes are open to men and women of all abilities. All you need is a joy of moving and courage to try out new things!

Dance Lab

Mixed Level

A mix of contemporary dance technique, Laban dance tasks and contact imrovisation, and time to devise short pieces.

If you like bending the rules, experimenting with movements, like contact, improvisation and modern/contemporary dance. If you are not afraid to venture into the unknown to create something new – then join my Dance Lab. It’s your chance to play with different ways to create, change and develop movement sequences to a theme and devise a short dance theatre sequence together.

The last project was called Global Water Dances Cork.

The Mixed Level classes are open to men and women of all abilities. All you need is a joy of moving and courage to try out new things!

Morning Contemporary Technique

Level 3 / Pro

This class is for advanced students and professional dancers. A morning class designed to offer a space to train – with teachers on rotation offering a mix of technique exercises.

Your tiny one cuddled close to your heart in a sling, wrap or carrier. A time to connect with your baby as you sway and move into a dance. At times soothing, At times awakening the senses.

Gentle, funny, and heart warming moves to music, dancing with and in the company of other parents.

This is a class that stresses baby’s and wearer’s safety with the main aim to share the joy in dancing together.
